Saboten was founded in the neighborhood of Shinjuku, Tokyo. The name Saboten or “cactus” in Japanese was selected to represent the founder’s vision, which is to build a shop that will thrive with vitality even in the harshest conditions.
The reason why Saboten is our favorite katsu place:
THE PLACE:
Saboten, which has Zen style interiors, is very spacious and clean. The tables are not crowded, so there’s a personal space and you can have private conversations.
THE MENU:
I know other katsu places also have set. But in here, their special sets are very very extensive! Plus, they also have Shabu- Shabu set.
THE FOOD:
Their set meal also comes with refillable shredded cabbage, pickles, rice, and miso soup.
You can smell the aroma of the sesame seeds when crushing them.

Here’s the variety I’m talking about. They also have solo, but the set we selected is prepared for two persons. It includes:
Two Deep Fried Shrimps
3 pcs of Loin Cutlet ( 65g)
Two Crab Cream Croquette, and
4 pcs rolled cutlets ( Choice of Asparagus, Cheese, or Plum)
The shrimps are large, not just full of breading. The loin cutlet is very tender and juicy.
Our personal favorite: Saboten’s crab cream croquette!!! This is by far the best croquette we had. It has the right texture of creaminess.
For the rolled cutlets, you can choose 2 flavors. We picked the cheese since we love cheeeeseee!! Everything in this set is perfect!
When we say we love Saboten’s crab cream, we surely do! We want more!!!

FINAL VERDICT:
We had a wonderful meal in Saboten. Ambiance and food are perfect! I recommend the special sharing set which is good to be shared for two hungry persons. If you don’t want to have this, they still have a wide variety of sets, good for one. I really wanted to try another set, but we can’t help but order this one every time we are here! Just when we thought almost all katsu places are the same, try Saboten! It won’t disappoint!
